Redeemed Church Pastor, Osibanjo Emerges APC Vice-Presidential Candidate,Says ''I’m joining Buhari to rebuild Nigeria''

Prof.Osibanjo
The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Wednesday announced   Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as his running mate, thus putting to an end, days of speculations on the issue.
Osinbajo was the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice when the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was governor.
The Ogun State-born serving pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, is married to a granddaughter of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Decked in a dark suit, a white shirt and a red tie, he promised, in his acceptance speech, to rebuild Nigeria with Buhari.
Before Buhari formally unveiled him at the APC national headquarters in Abuja, Tinubu had issued a statement in which he said that the APC presidential candidate   offered him(Tinubu) the position of running mate.
The former Lagos State governor, who was reported to have had interest in the post, explained that he rejected the offer because of his decision to remain a bridge builder across all divides.
While presenting Osinbajo, Buhari said, “To assist me in this great task of securing Nigeria’s future, I have chosen a man of unimpeachable integrity, an excellent professional, a man of faith, a devoted family man and a role model to our fellow countrymen and women.
“He is a professor of Law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. An alumnus of the University of Lagos and the London School of Economics. He is a prodigious author who has to his credit several books on civil procedure in Nigerian superior courts.
“The vice-presidential candidate is a friend of the less privileged, compassionate and zealous in service.
“A man of uncommon humility, a loyal, dependable and selfless patriot. He is Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who by the grace of God and the vote of Nigerians, will be the next vice-president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Buhari expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their growing support since his election as the APC presidential candidate   for the February 14, 2015 poll.
According to him, the huge acceptance of the APC and his candidacy by Nigerians had boosted his resolve to lead the process of rebuilding   Nigeria and securing “our future.”
He recalled that in his acceptance speech, he pledged to run an efficient government, fight corruption and indiscipline in “our national life” if elected president.
The APC candidate also promised to end the current regime of fear and uncertainty in   the country and place priority on national security.
He pledged to rebuild our battered economy and reduce poverty by deliberate policies   that would lead to the   creation of   jobs for Nigerian youths.
Buhari said, “The challenging process of rescuing our country and changing Nigeria for good has commenced. One of the first decisions that I have to make is the choice of my running mate.”
Explaining the delay in the announcement of his running mate, the former Head of State, said the method employed in choosing Osinbajo was “quite meticulous but yet rigorous.”
He said that it involved the establishment of objective criteria, broad consultations with party leaders and a few opinion leaders outside the party as well as interactions with a number of nominees.
Accepting the offer, Osinbajo said he was privileged to be offered the opportunity to serve as Buhari’s running mate. He explained that he had consulted widely before taking on the task.
The former commissioner said, “The task of rebuilding this nation is one to which I am fully committed. There can be no other President, Leader and commander that can lead that common sense revolution Nigeria urgently needs than Gen. Buhari.
“I will proudly serve this country with him. Gen. Buhari’s uprightness and fierce commitment to good governance are well known. It will be a privilege to work with him.
“I come to this assignment with a lot of hope and a resolve to be a part of this movement to bring Nigeria back to its lost glory. With the support of all Nigerians and the help of God, we shall make Nigeria work again.
“I will work with him and the party to restore hope and confidence in millions of our youths and provide comfort and security for millions of our countrymen and women.”
The selection of the APC vice-presidential candidate   had generated intense debate and interest since the emergence of Buhari as the presidential candidate last Friday.
Governors   Rotimi Amaechi(Rivers); and   Babatunde Fashola(Lagos); as well as   a former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi; Senator Chris Ngige and former National Chairman of the defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, had previously been tipped   for the vice presidential slot.
It was   learnt after the unveiling of Osinbajo that Amaechi would be named the Director-General of the APC presidential campaign.
Buhari offered me running mate position –Tinubu
Earlier on Wednesday, Tinubu had explained that he decided not to jostle for the vice-presidential slot because he believed that his position as the APC National Leader,   allowed him to serve as “a bridge builder across all divides.”
Tinubu, in a statement he personally signed in Abuja on Wednesday, said, “There came a time during the course of the events when our Presidential candidate, offered the Vice-Presidential slot to me.
“Being a normal human being, I was deeply moved and honoured that he would consider me for the position. Being a patriot, I had to weigh my potential candidacy in all of its dimensions.
“I have concluded that in the interest of the party, our campaign and the nation are better served if I retain my position as the National leader of the APC.
Tinubu said despite the opposition that arose over his possible selection,   Buhari stood firm and steadfast.
He said with this, Buhari showed the traits of a leader in holding to a decision he believed was right despite the plots against it.
The former governor said he was not bothered by lies being said about his person when his name was mentioned.
He said, “When my name was raised, the political hatchet men tried to chop it down with rumour and lies. Over the years, I have developed a thick skin.
“The personal attacks did not bother me. I am used to them. While I have a thick skin, I don’t have a thick mind.   There has been one form of attack that has troubled me.”
The attack, he said, was that of Muslim-Muslim ticket, which according to him, was orchestrated     by the Peoples Democratic Party.
“That is the attack based on religion. The PDP and others have stoked fear of a Muslim- Muslim ticket.’’
Tinubu pleaded with Nigerians “not to allow the power lust of cynical politicians to set brother against brother, neighbour against neighbour.
“If you look at those politicians who raise this issue the most, they are the least devout and faithful to any religion other than their self-interests.
“Nigeria has too many secular problems – insecurity, economic collapse, poverty, corruption and misgovernance – to allow inept people to use religion to keep us from solving these challenges for the benefit of all.”
He said that those who exploit religion should be wary, because “ there really is a God and he does not like it when you play with His people or use His name to do the opposite of what He intends.
“I ask the people to remove religion from the electoral equation now that the tickets of both parties are mixed. I ask you to select the ticket best able to end the downward slide that Nigeria has endured since this government took over. I ask you to remember that too many Christians and Muslims are poor.
“Most of all, I ask you to remember that the true religion of the PDP is poverty; the APC is here to bring prosperity to the people.”
He promised to work and dedicate himself “so that our ticket succeeds and wins the 2015 election – not for his good, not for my good, not even for the party’s good but for the good of the nation we inhabit.”
Choice of Buhari’s   running mate belated –PDP
The PDP   has described the announcement of   Osinbajo   as Buhari’s running mate   as belated.
It also described the choice of Osinbajo as a confirmation of its stand that the APC was the personal project of a cabal commanded by   Tinubu.
The PDP, through its   National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olisa Metuh, said, “should power get to this cabal, who is desperate to control the political and economic power centre of the nation, then Nigeria is finished.
“By the choice of Osinbajo, a well-known acolyte of Tinubu, who served under him as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the APC, Buhari and Tinubu have boldly recreated their well-known sectional and personal interests.
“It is particularly worrisome that Buhari has surrendered his first official responsibility of choosing a running mate. He has invariably surrendered his powers to Tinubu even before he goes to the field to ask for votes.
“This is not surprising of Buhari, who has consistently exhibited a track record of incompetence. This is the same man who as military head of state surrendered all his powers to his second in command.”

We don’t dabble in politics –RCCG

Pastor Adeboye

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has dissociated itself from rumours making the rounds that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, gave his blessings to the vice-presidential ambition of a former Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. The All Progressives Congress had on Wednesday named Osinbajo, who is said to be Adeboye’s close ally, as the running mate of its presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). The RCCG denied celebrating the emergence of the law professor who pastors its Olive Parish located on Banana Island, Lagos. Writing on its official Twitter page on Wednesday, the church said it does not dabble into politics in any shade or colouration. “We are a mission and we do not meddle in politics,” the RCCG stated while urging Nigerians to be wary of fictitious and misleading social media accounts dragging its name into the murky waters of politics. ADVERTISEMENT Meanwhile, reactions have begun to trail the emergence of Osinbajo as Buhari’s running mate for the 2015 presidential election. While many applauded the opposition party for coming up with Osinbajo, a cross section of Nigerians disagreed with his emergence. Leading the pack of Nigerians who kicked against the emergence of the former Lagos State justice commissioner on Wednesday was R &B Singer and founder of Empire Mates Entertainment, Banky W. According to the award-winning musician, there were better experienced hands than Osinbajo in public administration that the APC could have picked from. He lamented that the “crap” called religion had robbed the opposition party of fielding Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, who he described as more eminently qualified than Osinbajo. “It (Buhari’s running mate) should be Fashola. They use religion as a tool to control us. I don’t care about my leader’s tribe, religion, or whatever jargon they keep feeding us. Zoning ‘religioning’ are all crap. Who cares if Fashola is a Muslim? Didn’t we vote him into power in Lagos? Did the fact that he’s a muslim affect the way he lead the state? “They brainwash us into thinking these things (religion, tribe) really matter and then we wonder why we’re still here facing the same problems as a nation. We wonder why people still kill each other in places like Jos. “Some of my mentors, clients, business partners and colleagues are from different tribes and religions than mine. What difference does it make? I don’t choose who to do business with based on if they’re from my village. I don’t choose who to associate with based on their religion,” Banky W said on Twitter. But supporters of Osinbajo have disagreed with those questioning his emergence. Online commentator, Dipo Awojide, expressed confidence that the APC presidential candidate being an academic, would bring dynamism to governance, at the national level. Awojide described the law professor as an upright Nigerian and a role model who has mentored scores of young men and women on ways of “building careers without stealing.” Describing him as a man of deep intellectual persuasion, Awojide tweeted, “As a Nigerian and as a member of the RCCG, I’m proud of Prof. Osinbajo. No apologies. “Call him Prof. Osinbajo, call him Pastor Osinbajo, call him all you like, but you know you can’t call him a thief and a looter. “Being neutral in an era of misgovernance and misrule is unwise. You don’t have to join a political party, just vote for the best man.” Online activist, Gbenga Sesan, also hailed Osinbajo’s emergence, stating that the Buhari-Osinbajo ticket would form a government that would “demonstrate the capacity for competitive action over mediocrity.” According to Sesan, unknown to many, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria is much more than a pastor. “He (Osinbajo) is a Professor of Law, reformer with a track record in Lagos and Abuja, and a fine administrator. I’ll say APC made a smart move and got a great man,” he tweeted. Arguing that Osinbajo was a good choice, Abuja-based public affairs analyst, Waziri Adio, explained that the university teacher would add value to the Buhari presidential ticket. He said that Osinbajo co-founded Integrity, a premier pro-accountability non-governmental organisation before he became Lagos Attorney-General. He has since been active in civil society after office. “I think he’s a good choice. He’s calm, articulate, cerebral, and reform-minded. He complements GMB both on his strengths and weaknesses. “True, Osinbajo is a pastor at Redeemed Church, but I do not think he was chosen only to appeal to that church. But his value on d ticket is because the South West will be the battleground in 2015,” he wrote on Twitter. But the Presidency has insisted that President Goodluck Jonathan will coast home to victory in 2015. Special Assistant to the President on New Media, Reno Omokri, insisted that despite the opposition party’s alleged grandstanding it had yet to unveil its programmes. CULLED FROM PUNCH NEWSPAPER.

Nigerian Muslims Condemn Removal of Arabic Sign on New 100 Note,Accuse Jonathan of Selling Nigeria to Israel

‘There Is No Jewish Symbol On The New 100 Naira Note’, Presidency Hits Back At MURIC Over ‘Misleading’ Claims
The centenary commemorative 100 Naira note
A Muslim body, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has expressed concern over what it termed a Jewish symbol on the country’s new N100 note.
The new N100 note was unveiled to Nigerians recently by President Goodluck Jonathan in commemoration of Nigeria’s 100 years’ anniversary.
However, MURIC, in a statement by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, alleged the insertion of a Jewish symbol into the new currency, demanding explanation from the Federal Government.
It said its office had been inundated with calls by those who had observed the symbol.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Akintola said it was paramount for the government to urgently address the issue.
“The Federal Government, on November 12, 2014 unveiled the new design for the N100 commemorative centenary banknote which will be officially issued on December 19.
“However, the office of the Muslim Rights Concern has been inundated with calls for action on the Jewish symbol on the new note. Nigerian Muslims are complaining that the Arabic writing in Hausa language (the Ajami script) that read ‘Naira Dari’ (i.e. one hundred naira) on the N100 note has been removed and replaced with the Jewish symbol, the Star of David.
“As a faith-based human rights organisation which believes in the dialogue option, MURIC is duty bound to articulate the demands of Nigerian Muslims, particularly on matters which have to do with imbalance in treatment of the adherents of the different religions governments (federal or state).
“MURIC recalls that Arabic inscriptions which have always been on Nigerian currency since independence were unceremoniously removed in 2005 from N5, N10, N20 and N50 denominations. They remained on N100, N200, N500 and N1,000 denominations.
“Nigerian Muslims regard the latest action, namely, the supplanting of Arabic with Jewish symbol from the new N100 as a continuation of the campaign of elimination by substitution against Arabic language and, by implication, against Nigerian Muslims.
“It is well known that a large section of the Nigerian population use the Arabic Ajami and removing it from the new note will deprive millions of users of the Arabic Ajami of the ability to recognise, identify and use the new currency.
“Furthermore, putting the Jewish symbol on the new N100 falls short of international standard, as currencies worldwide are designed to suit each nation’s culture and history.
“Where does the Jewish symbol fit in? Which Nigerian community speaks the Jewish language? The insertion of the Jewish symbol is, therefore, clannish and parochial. It is tainted with undisguised religious fanaticism.
“There is nothing wrong for our president to like Israel as a nation, but it is another thing entirely to openly and brazenly promote Zionism at the highest office in this country when we are still struggling with the last vestiges of colonialism. Nigerian Muslims are becoming increasingly suspicious and very uncomfortable with the actions and inactions of President Jonathan.
“Firstly, in spite of the preponderance of Muslims in the South West, he appointed no single Muslim as minister in the whole region for almost four years. Secondly, he marginalised Muslims in the deliberations which took place in the national conference by appointing a meagre 189 Muslims as against 303 Christians.
“Thirdly, Mr President saturated the security system in Aso Rock with Israeli security operatives, a nation well known for its animosity towards Muslims. The supplanting of Arabic language with Jewish symbol is the fourth among Jonathan’s anti-Muslim policies.
“If once is happenstance, if twice is a coincidence and if the third time is enemy action, what do we call the fourth time? We are sick and tired of our president’s hatred for us. He openly confronts Muslims and goads us to challenge him.
“But we will not be provoked. Neither shall we be intimidated by executive maladministration. As apostles of dialogue and advocates of peaceful coexistence, as tax-payers, voters and citizens of this country, we hereby ask President Jonathan to explain the Jewish symbol on Nigeria’s money.
“We also demand to know why the presidency could not employ security experts from neutral countries like Britain or France instead of Israel, which is a sworn enemy of Muslims. Mr President may also deem it fit to tell us if there is no correlation between the Israeli security experts in Aso Rock, the Israeli caught with Nigeria’s N9.3 million arms money in South Africa and the Jewish symbol on the new N100 note.
“Mr President sir, are you not gradually selling Nigeria to Israel? Are you sure this will not attract the wrath of Israel’s enemies to our dear country? Can this also be partly responsible for the viciousness of the Boko Haram phenomenon?
“MURIC appeals to Muslims nationwide to await President Jonathan’s response to the above questions and to remain calm and law abiding. Islam teaches tolerance (Qur’an 3:134) and obedience to constituted authority (Qur’an 4:59),” the statement read.

Christian Association mandates churches to raise offering for displaced Christians

Pastor Oritsajafor

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has mandated all Nigerian churches to raise a special offering for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Northern Nigeria.
The charge was contained in a statement signed by the CAN National President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor and made available to media organizations across the country.
The statement said that following the resolution to hearken to the plea by Northern church to ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us’, CAN has, therefore, mandated all churches in the country to raise special offering on Sunday, December 7, 2014 for the rehabilitation of over 3 million internally displaced persons rooted from their ancestral homes by Islamic insurgents in several parts of Northern Nigeria.
CAN ,therefore, appeals to all churches in the country to adhere to the clarion call to be our Brothers’ keeper because the situation is already creating a serious humanitarian crisis across the several IDPs scattered across  several states of the federation.
The statement enjoined church leaders to remit such monies to CAN Help And Relief Fund Account Numbers 0147690435 in GTBANK.
The special offering becomes necessary after several months of mindless killings, maiming, destruction of property and businesses, sufferings of traumatized Christians in Nigeria’s Northern Region.
The Central Working Committee of the  Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) recently, at its meeting, agreed to source for funds to alleviate the suffering of the brethren- in the volatile Northern Nigeria that has been ravaged by the deadly Boko Haram activities.

Come to church with voters’ card before New Year blessing will be pronounced on you- Adeboye

Pastor Adeboye
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG),Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye has urged his congregation to ensure they go for their voters’ card registration in order for them to be able to vote in the forth-coming general elections.
Adeboye, who made this charge during his sermon at the last Friday’s vigil at the just-concluded Holy Congress, tagged ‘’The Great Shepherd’’ ,at the Redemption Camp, located along Lagos-Ibadan Express way, said he had once urged members to do their voters’ registration and ensure they bring their cards to church during the first Sunday service in December.
The popular cleric, who said ‘’your card is your power to decide who you want to rule you’’, urged members t make sure they get registered, adding that:’’ If it will take a whole day to get yours done, do it!’’
Adeboye, said he was having two voters’ cards with him: his own and that of his wife, informed that ‘’ I believe my children have all got theirs too’’.
The humble preacher told his listening teeming members that they must bring their voters’ card to church on the first Sunday of January, 2015 before the New Year blessings could be pronounced on them.
Similarly, the RCCG helmsman has urged members to make donations in order to help in assisting fellow Christians, who had been displaced by the on-going terrorist activities in the North
His words:’’ Many are   wounded in the crisis in the North. We have done a little on our own to send relief to them. Now, we are creating a platform to help. Thousands of people are displaced: some need food; some need clothes and so on. If you will love to contribute something to make life a bit comfortable for them, please do so now or before the end of the year. Such a person must indicate that it is for the relief. We are going to gather everything and pass it to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) .And CAN will pass it to them. If you are going to do something about it say Amen!’’
