The Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, Rt. Rev Diamond Emuobor, has urged the national leadership of CAN and Niger Delta Christian Elders Council, to wade into the face-off between President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, before it gets out of hand with its attendant consequence on the Niger Delta region in particular and the country at large.
He also charged the ruling elites in the political groupings in Nigeria to be wary of bigotry and tyranic manipulations of the populace over who should take precedence in holding leading positions in the country’s administration.
Emuobor, at the quarterly meeting of the association in Ughelli, queried the wisdom of President Jonathan, his allies and “a governor” in the country from the same political party and region, in washing their dirty linens in public.
He said: “Nigeria has its admirers and peer groups all over the world. By this manipulation, Nigerians are now being ranked low as a people without elders to advise its leaders.
“The nation at this time needs formidable unity to conquer the rampaging insurgency facing the country and good leadership. While Brazil, an age group of Nigeria, is exporting development to Nigeria, elites of the ruling class in Nigeria are busy ternishing our collective image in their disgraceful and retrogressive boastings and bashes.
“A governor volunteering to bankroll the impeachment of a fellow governor with N7 billon smacks of a deranged elite leadership. Who owns the N7 billon the governor wants to waste in bribing Nigerian colleagues to overturn our development?”
He also congratulated National President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor on his re-election for a second tenure
