2015: Don’t sell your votes, cleric warns Christians

Christians have been warned against selling their votes in the coming elections to avoid compromise and negatively affecting the hope of the unborn generation.
Archbishop Dr. Olu Ehindero made this appeal at the launch of Christian Conscience in the Lagos East Senatorial district, which took place at the Comforter Gospel Assembly Cathedral Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Christian Conscience is a group committed to the installation of a governor in Lagos who has a bias for Christian ethics.
According to Ehindero, who was the guest speaker at the launch, Christians should seize the opportunity presented by democracy to chart a course for themselves and change political leaders that were not committed to Christian values.
The cleric, who observed that the political class had penchant to induce voters, said, “When you are compromised, you won’t have the right to challenge them when they don’t do what is expected of them. Christian leaders should take advantage of the pulpit to educate their members not to sell their conscience.”
Ehindero also called for unity among Christian leaders, saying that without unity, there was no way they could pursue the vision of the Christian Conscience.
The National Chairman of the group, Chief Enock Ajiboso, who performed the inauguration ceremony, called on Christians not to sit on the fence, as he debunked the impression that politics was a dirty game.
While enjoining Christians to “bring Christian values into governance,” he stated that “I can tell you emphatically that I’m a Christian with a conscience. I’m committed to my faith. I went into politics to add value to the lives of people. I was two-time local government chairman and once a commissioner of agriculture in Lagos State.”
which include fairness, equity, justice and constant prayers, saying that these were values expected from the country’s political leaders, which he disclosed were unfortunately lacking “hence the situation we have found ourselves in Nigeria.”
