Unity of the Church Not Negotiable
Still on the subject of the kingdom, permit me to say unequivocally that the unity of the church of Jesus Christ on earth and in Nigeria is not negotiable. It is the eternal responsibility of the church leaders and fathers to foster the unity of the church.
With all due respect, it is sad to note that all of our church leaders have stubbornly refused the Holy Spirit to accomplish through them the unity of the church. Let me posit here that if any one of our church leaders should die without removing egos and making concrete efforts to bring the church together. They have failed where it matters most.
They are aware that most politicians, who come to their meetings, come for endorsement because they recognize that the church has the power of number. Yet the same politicians dump God, the church and his commandment as soon as they get back to their states.
Indeed the children of this world are wise in their own ways, rather than do the right thing for the people, they choose to do divide and rule or is it divide and settle!
It is important for our church fathers to know how the world and Nigerian perceive them.
They see our church leaders as men who have eaten from the table of politicians and thus are handicapped to chastise the politicians when they err. A Yoruba adage says “ Ti enu ba je enu a dake”
That our church leaders are not sincere about the plight of the common people. They play the ostrich “If I don’t see it, then it’s not happening”.
They believe that our church leaders control enormous wealth and resources that is more than the states, can gather in a year, yet it does not match up with the quality of service delivery from these leaders.
That the problem of the Nigerian state is simply the problem traceable to the Ineptitude of the church in Nigeria, where church leaders remain silent on serious issues that bothers all or at worse when they choose to speak it is a discordant voice, which is a clear betrayal of the unity of the church.
They believe that our church leaders and fathers are more committed to the advancement of their personal empires which they call denomination than they are committed to the kingdom of God in Nigeria.
My humble recommendation is that we should begin to see our church leaders and fathers at least come together in public on issues that affect the church and the common people to make joint statement.
We should begin to see our church fathers grace each other’s meetings/programmes more frequently. The church sees this as a sign of unity in the kingdom. We should not wait for the death of wives before we show up, to show solidarity. This is perceived as hypocrisy.
Our church leaders and father should begin to take their roles as the priest in the land very seriously as to break their unholy silence and begin to give the much needed direction to the state. Quit pretending that they are not politicians, yet they play politics and are used by politicians.
It is time to prove to the world that the church can be united and she has a voice. It is time to show that the Lord Jesus can rely on us to be an answer to his prayer request for the unity of the church.
Our leaders should resolve to play down on the areas where we have differences in doctrine, style etc. But embrace and seek to strengthen the areas where we have common beliefs and opinion- remember that we all know in part and that there is no denomination in Heaven. To whom much is given much will be demanded. God gave them National and Global influence in order to make positive National and global impact.
