Governor Okorocha Sues For Peace In Ahiara Diocese As Cardinal Onaiyekan Assumes Office

The Imo state governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha wants the new administrator of Ahiara Diocese Cardinal John Onaiyekan to ensure timely resolution of the problems facing the diocese. The Governor made the call during a Eucharistic Celebration in honour of the administrator at Mater Ecclesiastes Cathedral Ahiara Diocese Mbaise.
Chief executive noted that only a timely resolution of the crisis in the area would bring about peace, sanity in the diocese. He thanked the Holy See for appointing an Administrator to wield into the matter noting that Mbaise people were peace loving.
In his speech, the Administrator, Cardinal John Onaiyekan said he was in the Diocese to resolve the crisis that was occasioned by the appointment of Bishop Okpaleke as the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese.
He called on the people of the area to break away from racial discrimination in the pursuance of what is right.
Cardinal Onaiyekan urged them to sustain the good work of late Bishop Chikwe in their Christian Dom. In a welcome address, Fr. Timothy Okeahialam thanked Bishop Onaiyekan for accepting the Offer as an Administrator in the Diocese.
Fr. Okeahialam recalled that the announcement of Bishop Okpaleke and his subsequent reject by the people was the genesis of the crisis rocking the diocese, stressing that Mbaise people are looking for Justice, Fair Play and Unity.
He maintained that the land had produced great men and women and wondered why they would be short changed and prayed God to assist the administrator to pilot the affairs of the diocese.
In a remark, the member representing Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala in the Federal House or Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha pledged the support of the people of Mbaise to the Administrator as he pilots the affairs of the diocese.
The deputy speaker said the people of Mbaise are peace loving and urged the Bishop to ensure a level playing ground to finding lasting solution to the problems facing the diocese.
The highlight of  the occasion was a presentation of a ‘’Dove of an Olive branch’’ as a sign of peace to bishop Onaiyekan.
